Playground – try CodeB Wallet yourself
Open a page on your computer or phone, scan the code with CodeB Wallet and see what happens. Every try here is public and needs no account: read the chip of your own passport or ID card from a web page or prove that you are over 18 without showing your birthday.
- No account needed
- Your own document only
- Result only on your screen
Try 1: read the chip of your passport or ID card from a web page
- This is the same remote reading organisations use to check documents – here you are both sides. Open the demo reading page on your computer (or on the phone itself) and start a reading.
- Scan the QR code with CodeB Wallet – or tap the link on the phone. The wallet shows who is asking (“CodeB (demo)”) and what the data is for. Continue only if the code is on your own screen.
- Type the 6-digit card access number (CAN) from the front of your ID card, or let the camera read the machine-readable zone of your passport.
- Hold the document flat on the back of the phone until the bar is full.
- Look at the web page: it shows whether the document is genuine, the data on the chip and the chip photo – read and checked by the server, not by the phone.
What happens to your data in the demo
The result is shown only on the page that started the reading and is deleted after 30 minutes at the latest. No account is opened, nothing is issued to your wallet, and the demo does not confirm anyone’s identity – it shows that a genuine document was present.
To keep the demo fair for everyone, each network can start only a few readings per day. Organisations that want to check documents of their customers use remote ID verification with their own phone.codeb.io account.
Try 2: prove that you are over 18
Open the age check page and scan the code with CodeB Wallet. The page asks only for “over 18” with the EU age-verification link – your wallet shows that nothing else is asked for, and the page is shown as not identified, because age is all it may ask for.
You need a PID in your wallet for this – for testing you get one with the free CodeB account. More in Prove your age.
For developers: test your own wallet or verifier
The interoperability self-test asks any OpenID4VP-capable EU wallet for a credential and reports which requirements passed and which failed. Integrators find the APIs in the wallet API overview.
Questions about the playground
Do I need an account to try CodeB Wallet?
No. The chip reading demo and the age check page work without any account. Only the age check needs a PID in your wallet, which you get with the free CodeB account.
Is my passport data stored?
The demo shows the result only on the page that started the reading and deletes it after 30 minutes at the latest. No account is opened and nothing is added to your wallet.
Can I read someone else’s document in the demo?
Only read your own document. The wallet shows the purpose of every reading and asks you to continue only if the code is on your own screen.
Does the demo confirm my identity?
No. It shows whether a genuine document with a valid chip was present. It does not compare faces and does not confirm who you are.
Which phones work?
Any Android phone with NFC and CodeB Wallet. The web pages work in any modern browser on a computer or phone.
