Why your birthday stays private
Your EU digital identity (PID) carries age statements such as “over 18”. CodeB Wallet shows you exactly which details are asked for and shares only those you confirm, with your PIN or biometrics. A request for “over 18” never reveals your date of birth.
How to show that you are over 18 in person
- Tap Show ID and choose In person.
- The other person scans the QR code with their wallet or reader app – or starts the connection with an NFC tap.
- Your phone shows exactly what is asked for – for example only “over 18”. Check it.
- Confirm with your PIN or biometrics. The answer goes directly from phone to phone over Bluetooth – no internet needed.
Online: websites and apps
Websites and apps can ask your wallet for “over 18” with the standard online protocol (OpenID4VP). CodeB Wallet opens, shows who is asking and what they want, and you decide. In person, the standard is ISO/IEC 18013-5.
Checking someone else’s age
Tap Verify, choose only “over 18” and scan the other person’s QR code. CodeB Wallet shows a clear verdict – trusted, look closer or do not accept – after checking the issuer’s signature, that the data is unchanged, the validity and whether the document has been revoked. Nothing is kept on your phone.
What you need
A PID in CodeB Wallet – for testing you get one with the free CodeB account, opened with your passport or ID card. The person checking needs an EU wallet or a reader app.

Can I prove I am over 18 without showing my date of birth?
Yes. CodeB Wallet shares only the statement “over 18” from your EU digital identity when that is all that is asked for – your birthday, name and address stay private.

Yes. Websites and apps can ask your wallet for “over 18” with OpenID4VP; you see who asks and decide. In person, it works phone to phone with ISO/IEC 18013-5.
